A complete rundown of the video, audio, and image formats VidMints can download, import, and export — plus quality tiers, limitations, and how to fix common format problems.

Overview

VidMints works with the everyday formats used across the web, so most files just work without conversion. This article covers three areas: what the downloader saves, what the video and image editors can import and export, and the audio you get from voiceover and MP3 extraction.

Because VidMints runs in your browser, a few format details depend on your browser and on what the original source actually published. Where that matters, it's called out below.

Downloader formats and quality

Paste a link, press Analyze, then choose what to save before the job starts:

  • Video — MP4 is the default and most compatible container. Depending on what the source provides, some downloads may come through as WebM or MKV.
  • Audio only — extract the sound as an MP3 when you just need the audio (a song, a talk, a voiceover).
  • Resolution — from 360p up to 4K (2160p). The free tier covers 360p and 480p; paid plans unlock 720p, 1080p, 1440p, and 4K.
  • On paid plans, if the source was published below your chosen resolution, VidMints can upscale it to fill the gap so every quality chip still delivers a file — the interface labels these as enhanced or AI upscale so you know what you're getting.

An important limit on resolution

VidMints cannot invent detail that was never uploaded. If a platform only publishes a clip at 1080p, then 1080p is the ceiling for that specific file — the highest native quality you see in the picker reflects what the source actually offers. Vimeo public videos, for example, commonly top out around 1080p. Aside from the optional upscale path on paid plans, the quality menu is built from the real formats the source exposes.

Supported download sites

The downloader supports 20+ platforms, including YouTube, TikTok, X (Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, Vimeo, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Reddit, Snapchat, and Threads. X GIFs are really short videos, so they save as clean MP4 files. Private or password-protected videos are not accessible.

Editor: what you can import and export

The video editor accepts common video, image, and audio files dropped onto the timeline. When you export a finished project, VidMints records the composition in real time in your browser and saves it as MP4 where your browser supports it, falling back to WebM otherwise. You choose the output resolution (480p, 720p, 1080p, or 4K) and the aspect ratio (9:16 for TikTok, Reels, and Shorts; 16:9 for YouTube and landscape; 1:1 for feed posts).

The image editor imports the usual photo formats — including JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, HEIC/HEIF, AVIF, and SVG — and exports to PNG, PNG with transparency, JPG, or WebP. What you see on the canvas is exactly what exports, including filters and adjustments.

Audio formats

The AI voiceover tool generates narration as an MP3 you can download and drop into the editor. MP3 is also the format you get when you extract audio from a download. Note that some AI tools, including AI generation and voiceover, cost credits.

Troubleshooting format issues

If a format isn't behaving the way you expect, these are the most common causes and fixes:

  • A download fails on YouTube, Instagram, or another platform with a message about signing in or verifying you're not a bot: these sites sometimes block automated access, and clearing that wall requires the operator to configure cookies or a proxy on the server. This can make some downloads temporarily fail until it's reconfigured — try again later or choose a different source.
  • The exported video is a WebM when you wanted MP4: your browser didn't support MP4 recording. Try the latest Chrome or Edge, or convert the WebM afterward.
  • The quality you want isn't in the list: the source didn't publish it. Pick the highest available option, or upgrade to a paid plan to unlock higher tiers and the upscale path.
  • A HEIC or AVIF photo won't preview in the image editor: support depends on your browser; convert it to JPG or PNG first if it won't load.
