Using the VidMints Image Editor

What the image editor does

The VidMints image editor is a browser-based photo studio at /editor/image. It runs entirely in your browser on any device, with nothing to install. It's a separate workspace from the video editor, with its own document, undo history, and export.

The editor splits into two kinds of tools. Everyday edits run instantly on your device and are free: cropping, resizing, rotating and flipping, colour adjustments, filters, text, shapes, and markup. A separate set of AI tools (background removal, object removal, upscaling and more) sends your image to VidMints' servers to process and uses credits per run.

Tools are grouped into panels on the tool rail: Adjust, Filters, Transform, Text, Shapes, Markup, AI Tools, and Layers. On mobile the rail becomes a scroll strip and the properties open in a draggable bottom sheet.

Getting started: upload an image

Open the editor and drop in a photo, or use the upload control. Common formats are supported, including JPG, PNG and WebP.

Your image loads as the base layer. From there you can layer on as many changes as you need — every text box, shape, and annotation sits on top of the base, and geometry tools (crop, resize, rotate, flip) bake into the base image itself.

Free, on-device editing

These tools cost no credits and apply instantly because they run locally in your browser:

• Transform: rotate 90° either direction, flip horizontal or vertical, crop, and resize to exact pixel dimensions.
• Adjust: brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, exposure, shadows, highlights, blur, and sharpen.
• Filters: one-tap looks including Vivid, Warm, Cool, Fade, Mono, Noir, Sepia, Vintage, and Invert.
• Text: add headlines and captions with font, size, colour, alignment, bold/italic/underline, letter spacing, and an optional highlight background.
• Shapes: rectangles, ellipses, and lines with fill, stroke, and corner radius.
• Markup: annotate and censor — useful for redacting or highlighting parts of an image before you share it.
• Layers: reorder layers, toggle visibility, and select individual elements to edit them.

AI tools (these use credits)

AI tools send the current composited image to VidMints' backend, so they require you to be signed in and they use credits per run. New accounts get free credits to try them. If you run out, the editor takes you to Billing. Available AI tools include:

• Remove Background — cuts out the subject and returns a transparent result.
• Remove Object / Magic Eraser / Watermark, Logo and Text removal — brush a mask over what you want gone and the AI inpaints the area from surrounding pixels.
• Generative Fill, AI Expand, Replace Background — brush an area and describe what should go there.
• AI Upscale — increase resolution with detail.
• AI Enhance, Portrait/Face Enhance, Noise Removal — clarity, detail, and grain cleanup.
• Color Restoration — colourise or revive faded photos.
• Sky Replace — swap the sky for a more dramatic one.

Undo, autosave, and shortcuts

The editor keeps an undo history of up to 60 steps, and AI results can be undone like any other edit. Your work is autosaved to your browser's local storage, so it survives a page reload on the same device and browser.

Handy keyboard shortcuts:

• Cmd/Ctrl + Z — undo; add Shift (or Ctrl + Y) to redo
• Cmd/Ctrl + E — open the export dialog
• Delete or Backspace — remove the selected layer
• Esc — deselect, or cancel an in-progress crop
• + / − — zoom in and out

Exporting your image

Open the export dialog to download the finished image. You can choose the format — PNG, PNG with transparency, JPEG, or WEBP — and a resolution multiplier from 0.5x up to 3x (capped so the longest edge stays at or below 10,000px).

JPEG has no transparency, so it flattens onto a white background; PNG (transparent) and WEBP keep the alpha channel. For JPEG and WEBP you can also set a quality percentage. Export is fully client-side: the file is rendered in your browser and downloaded directly.

Limitations and troubleshooting

Free tools run locally, so they're only as fast as your device and browser; very large images can be slower to process and export.

AI tools depend on the operator having the relevant models configured on the server. If a tool isn't set up in your environment, you'll see an honest message such as "This AI model isn't configured on the server yet" (a 503) rather than a fake result. The AI server may also be waking from cold — the editor retries automatically, but if a run fails you can simply try again.

If an AI tool says you need to sign in, sign in and retry; if it says you need more credits, you'll be routed to Billing. Autosave keeps only your latest document per browser and can be skipped silently if local storage is full, so download anything you want to keep.

Only edit and use images you own or have the rights to. Images you edit are yours to use, including commercially on paid plans — check your plan for export and watermark details.
